Google presented an updated guide on the use of links
Rules for writing anchors
Today we're going to look at some tips from Google on how to best use links.
What is important to note about the correct use of links
Google has revealed some important secrets that allow you to be more efficient use references in the text.
- The Title attribute can be used as an anchor for a link. For example:
<a href="https://www.example.com/" title="Example Anchor Text"></а>.
- If there is not only a Title attribute, but also an anchor, they should perform the same function, explaining exactly where the link leads. Because of this, their content should also be made identical.
- It's best to use an anchor because that way you let readers know where the link is going without having to follow it. But, from the point of view of the search engine, it should be meaningful and not too long.
- Don't place links too close together. Because of this, there is too little text around them, which is supposed to make it easier to understand where the link is going, and therefore whether the user should follow it.
- Anchors should be written as naturally as possible without saturating them with search queries. It is also important that their content corresponds to the context around the link.
